DJ Matrix has been in the booth for over 15 years.  Born in Mesa, AZ, who would have ever thought this little boy would grow up to be one of the most respected DJs in Birmingham, AL!!!???  Matrix was a military brat growing up and moved around quite a bit.  All that was consistent in his life was music and he fell in love with it.  Finally landing in Tuscaloosa with his family, he decided to pick up the headphones and give it a shot.  He began spinning in Tuscaloosa when he was about 16 years old with a mobile DJ company, and has attempted to perfect his trade and style ever since. 

His real DJ career began in 1997 at Ropers Rockin’ Country in Hoover, AL.  DJ Matrix had been competing in Country Line Dance for about five years, and was offered a job in the booth based on his knowledge of country music and country dance and his experience doing house parties with a mobile company in Tuscaloosa.  The music began to consume him.  He worked five nights each week and came to realize how much he loved being in the booth! 

From Ropers, DJ Matrix bounced around Birmingham, holding residencies at many well-known night clubs:  Bell Bottoms, Club Red (Now Rize), Tiki Bob’s, and the Yellow Rose.  He has played every genre of music from country to disco to top 40 to (his favorite) old school rock-n-roll.  Then fate, and a pregnant wife, caused him to slow down a little…

Although he tried to “hang up his headphones” in 2005, Matrix just couldn’t stay away.  After the birth of his son, he decided the 9 to 5 thing just wasn’t for him.  He wanted to spend more time with his family, and longed to spin again.  Nana Funks called in November 2006 and Matrix could not have been more excited to take the gig!

DJ Matrix has held his residency at Nana Funks since its beginning in December 2006 and could not be happier.  “The family we have created at Nana Funks is extraordinary!  I could not ask for anything better!  The atmosphere, the vibe, the fun we have going on is unprecedented!  I enjoy the experience of working in an energetic, off-the-chain environment…who else do you know could say that?!  It is perfect!”
